Sony Introduces New, Smaller Model of PlayStation 3, No Sign of PlayStation 4

As it's done in years past for previous models of PlayStation 1 and 2, Sony has introduced a new, smaller model for it's PlayStation 3 and this year's Tokyo Game Show.

As Sony's given no mention for a new console, this may be the closest we get to the elusive PlayStation 4. And if they're taking the time to release this model, it's likely we won't hear anything about a next generation Sony console for some time.

Looking a little sleeker, the new model is 20 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than the current model. For those who've stuck with the OG model, the new PS3 by comparison is 50 percent smaller than that behemoth.

Players will have their choice of models that offer either 250GB, or a whopping 500 GB of memory. For the color coordinated, it will also come in the always fashionable black, and an angelic white if black's too evil for you.

The black console will be out on in Japan October 4, while the white model will be out on November 22.

In the US, gamers will pay $270 for the 250GB model, which will be available on September 25. It will also come with the Game of the Year edition of Uncharted 3, and a $30 "digital content" voucher for DUST 514..

As for the 500GB model, US gamers won't be able to get their hands on it until October 30, and for good reason. It'll come paired with Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 3.
