Traditionally, Macs haven't always had access to the best computer games. But that's about to change. NCsoft and ArenaNet announced today that the revolutionary online roleplaying game Guild Wars 2 will also be supporting Mac OSX.
As of today, anyone who purchases Guild Wars 2 will get a beta for an upcoming Mac version. While the beta is still being optimized, it can still connect to the live servers. Which means, everyone can all play together, whether you're on a Mac or a Windows PC. Users will be able to access the Mac beta client through the Guild Wars 2 account management website after activating their game code.
Releasing in late August, Guild Wars 2 was a hit before it even came out, with pre-sales totaling over one million.
Offering players a living, breathing world where events occur naturally and in response to players' actions, Guild Wars 2 is set 250 years after the first Guild Wars, and five elder dragons that lay dormant have since awaken, and are now free to wreak havoc among Tyria.
An action game at heart, survival in combat is based on timing, skill, and movement. Well-timed dodges or combo attacks are integral to any battle. Guild Wars 2 rethinks the outdated class restrictions of other games, giving players the tools and skills they need to play with friends regardless of their class.
To deliver this support for Mac gamers, ArenaNet is partnering with TransGaming whose revolutionary Cider technology dynamically translates between operating environments. This approach means that future updates to the game will also be available for Windows and Mac simultaneously.
