Angry Birds Spin-Off, Bad Piggies, Releases September 27, Gets a Trailer (Watch it Here!)

Pigs are nature's candy. In addition to supplying us with such deliciousness like ham, bacon, pork chops, and blessed prosciutto, it also seems they're rather ingenius.

So that's how they've been grabbing all thos eggs and building those tricky forts. Craft any number of vehicles so that the green swine can...well, admittedly, we're not completely sure what Bad Piggies' end game is, or what it will be like, but the odds are good it's what we'll all be doing to pass time while on the train or an extended elevator ride.

Speaking with Yahoo!, Petri Järvilehto, EVP of Games at Rovio said, "As far as the gameplay goes, Bad Piggies and Angry Birds are complete opposites. Angry Birds smash things up, Bad Piggies build stuff. The pigs are all about making plans and building things, even -- and especially -- when they don't work!"

Bad Piggies will no doubt help expand the empire Angry Birds built. According to a recent games industry article, the toy manufacturer for Rovio's line of Angry Birds toys, Commonwealth Toy & Novelty Co., expects to sell a whopping $400 million worth of Angry Birds merchandise this year.

Since it's release by RovioMobile in 2009, the original Angry Birds and all its additions have reached (cumulatively) over one billion downloads. It's now available on everything from Facebook, to mobile phones, nooks, and iPads, and will eventually make a nest on home consoles as well.

Last year, Rovio said it generated $106 million in revenue. About 30% of that came from licensing agreements and sales of merchandise like Commonwealth's plush toy line, as well as red-bird squeeze pillows, board games, and Halloween costumes. A true success story, Commonwealth now receives dozens of licensing offers from app developers each month.

"We've had a lot of fun creating a totally new and unique gameplay experience," said Järvilehto. "There's so much more to these pigs than what is seen in the Angry Birds games, and Bad Piggies is the first glimpse into what's going on in the imaginative and ingenious minds of the pigs."

Bad Piggies releases to Android and iOS devices on September 27, with Windows 8 and PC versions coming soon after.
