Microsoft Has Renewed the Killer Instinct Trademark

One 16-bit era's classic fighting games could be making a return after Microsoft renewed the trademark license of Killer Instinct.

The game was one of the reasons to own a Super Nintendo during that generation of consoles. The game borrowed from other contemporary fighters of its time including Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. The game utilizes a similar set of attacks like Street Fighter but has finishing moves like Mortal Kombat.

The game's plot while not as fleshed out as today's game, was set in a near future where megacorporation have replaced all governments. The main antagonist of the game is corporation Ultratech. The company organizes a tournament called Killer Instinct where regular participants and experimental creatures created by Ultratech fight to test their skills.

Ultratech also discovers a technology to create bridges between dimensions, and releases mythical creatures such as the two-headed, one-eyed, satyr monster called Eyedol. The creature is a inmate of a dimensional prison.
