'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: What Nina Dobrev's Return Could Mean For The Rest Of The Cast; Who Else Is Coming Back?

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is currently in the works and set to launch sometime in fall 2016. There are rumors that former series star Nina Dobrev will be coming back, which can change the dynamics of the entire story.

It has been a year since Dobrev exited "The Vampire Diaries" for good at the end of the sixth season. However, talks circulated that the character will return in the near future, after her voice was featured in the Season 7 finale of "The Vampire Diaries."

"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec told TVLine that in the final episode of Season 8, Dobrev recorded new material where the mysterious villain inside the vault lured Damon (Ian Somerhalder) in, using Elena's (Nina Dobrev) voice.

For the scene, Dobrev returned to The Vampire Diaries studio to do the automated dialogue replacement (ADR). Plec allegedly contacted the actress and said that they can either cobble the recording together based on various The Vampire Diaries episodes or she can simply return to do the ADR herself.

Dobrev decided to do it in person, which the producer admired.

However, fans should not be too quick to believe that Elena will return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Plec shared that she will maintain her original plan of having Dobrev come back only for the series finale, the date of which is still uncertain.

Plec explained that she and Dobrev agreed on the role reprisal when the latter decided to quit the show. The producer teased that things can still change over time and fans may find Dobrev on the show sooner.

However, the actress was clear with her next career steps, and they will stick with their "The Vampire Diaries" series finale plan in the meantime.

Hollywood Life noted Ian Somerhalder in saying that "The Vampire Diaries" will end after Season 8. Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie Bennett, also said that it will be her last season. There were questions in the manner that Elena will return.

It is almost impossible for The Vampire Diaries character to come back if Bonne has not died yet, so some speculate that Bonnie might be killed off before the end of the eighth season.

One source revealed that Nina will return in "The Vampire Diaries" in some shape or form, but she is definitely returning.
