Melanie Faulknor of Bioware recently explained the new features coming to the Wii U special edition of Mass Effect 3 in an interview with GamerLiveTV. The game will be released for the upcoming Wii U console during the system's launch window.

The Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 will incorporate the Extended Cut content as part of the game and will not require gamers to download it. This means that the Extended Cut's endings will now be the default endings in the Mass Effect 3: Special Edition.

Mass Effect 3's release was met with controversy, when gamers complained that the game's original ending was confusing and lacked closure. In response, Bioware released Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, which features new cinematics and epilogue scenes that expanded upon Mass Effect 3's original ending.

An "interactive comic book will be included to familiarize gamers with the back story and will cover previous events in the Mass Effect universe. The comic book will be called Mass Effect: Genesis 2, by Darkhorse comics. The studio Straight Run is handling development of the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3.

The Wii U version will utilize the GamePad to handle squad commands and view maps of levels. The GamePad mean gamer will not have to pause the game as often. The feature also allows gamers to map their powers and the powers of their squad mates to onscreen touch buttons called hot keys.

The game also comes with a Wii U exclusive weapon called the Laden that targets six enemies at once and according to Faulknor is "obliterates them" She also says that gamers will be able to play the full game on the GamePad's screen.

Mass Effect 3: Special Edition for Wii U will include the From Ashes add-on, which launched as a paid day-one DLC pack on other platforms. The DLC From Ashes includes a powerful new and permanent squad member - the last surviving Prothean.
