This episode of "WWE SmackDown" is a little over a week away from "WWE Battleground," the next big PPV event. WWE continues to plug along their main event scene even without the involvement of one Roman Reigns, and the blue brand's main event this week tries to hit two birds with one stone by putting together two rivalries in one match.
- "WWE SmackDown" begins with a backstage promo by Kevin Owens, who presents a birthday card rival Sami Zayn gave to his son last year. He promoted his main event match against Dean Ambrose.
- Charlotte and Dana Brooke arrive at the arena. Dana Brooke talks smack against Sasha Banks, building up their match that's up next.
- Sasha Banks def. Dana Brooke. Women's Champion Charlotte tried to distract Sasha, but it didn't work.
- Shane McMahon was shown speaking to Dean Ambrose backstage. We didn't get to hear what they were talking about.
- Dolph Ziggler def. United States Champion Rusev (with Lana). Zack Ryder came down for a distraction. Rusev tried to deal with them, but failed, getting pinned by Dolph Ziggler for his mistake.
- The Club (AJ Styles and Karl Anderson, with Luke Gallows) def. Enzo and Cass.
- Kalisto def. Tyler Breeze.
- Darren Young and his life coach Bob Backlund appeared on MizTV. Young, Backlund, and Miz traded words ahead of their Intercontinental Championship match on "WWE Battleground."
- Charlotte and Dana Brooke confronted Sasha Banks backstage at the trainer's room. Charlotte said she got them a match on "WWE Battleground," but not a Women's Championship match—a tag team match between her and Dana Brooke against Sasha Banks and a partner of her choice.
- Dean Ambrose def. Kevin Owens by DQ. Seth Rollins interfered, causing the DQ; Sami Zayn came down to help Ambrose and fight Owens.
- Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins def. Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn. The finish of the "WWE SmackDown" main event saw Rollins pinning Zayn after a Pedigree.
