'Doctor Strange' Spoilers, Release Date, News & Update: Marvel Film May Not Be as Serious As the Trailer Implies [VIDEO]

There's only a few months left before Marvel's "Doctor Strange" hits theaters to blow our minds, but there's still so much mystery surrounding the upcoming film. So far, only one trailer has been released, and fans got to see Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange in the two-minute clip released back in April.

While the trailer set a dark, serious tone to the film (compared to, say, "Guardians of the Galaxy," which showed multiple trailers, some serious, some hilarious), it seems that Marvel is still going to inject humor into an otherwise possibly depressing film. According to Digital Spy, Mads Mikkelsen, who plays a yet-unnamed villain in the upcoming "Doctor Strange," teased some details about the film's tone.

"You can't bring [the humour] yourself, if it's in the script you have to sort of lean into the script that's already there. There is some," Mikkelsen confirmed. "My character is not necessarily carrying too much of it but Doctor Strange is. There's a certain darkness in the Doc and a sense of humour in there, absolutely."

Of course, humor may be one way for the reknowned neurosurgeon to deal with the accident that left him with tremors, making him incapable to perform as he did before. As he journeys to rebuild himself, he meets the Celtic mystic Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who becomes his mentor as he embarks on a journey as the Sorcerer Supreme.

According to Comicbook Resources, Mikkelsen is rumored to be playing Kaecilius, who the actor said is not really a villain, but someone whose beliefs and ways differ from most. For the most part, Marvel and Disney remain tight-lipped on any additional details surrounding Mikkelson's character.

"Doctor Strange" is directed by Scott Derrickson and produced by Kevin Feige, and will debut in theaters on November 4. Check out IGN's analysis on the trailer and see if you can spot more interesting details about the upcoming film.
