"Killer Instinct," the 2013 Microsoft reboot of the 1994 SNES fighting game, is getting a new edition that collects all the characters and content from its three seasons.
Microsoft made the announcement today of the new "Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition" bundle for Xbox One. This collection, going for $39.99, will have all 26 characters (with a special edition Shadow Jago), 20 stages, new visual upgrades, and the old "Killer Instinct" 1 and 2. That's on top of all the media produced for the games, from songs to trailers to concept art, and they even throw in behind-the-scenes videos describing the games and their production in full detail.
Players who buy a physical copy of "Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition" will also get a free soundtrack, and a gold skin for the character Gargos. It will drop on September 20 later this year.
In other "Killer Instinct" news, IGN reports that the classic "Killer Instinct's" soundtrack will be released on vinyl, while Microsoft is also surveying players on possible bonus characters. They're considering adding characters from "Halo," (the Brute), Joanna Dark from "Perfect Dark," characters from previous games, and other ideas Microsoft is pursuing.
The original "Killer Instinct" games, which the "Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition" makes available, on the Super Nintendo, Game Boy, and Nintendo 64 were big hits back in the day, and is still revered in the present, mostly for having the best combo mechanics in all of the fighting game genre. The 2013 reboot of the game brings back many of the characters from the original series, and was also well-received upon its release (and even more so upon the release of its subsequent seasons) three years ago.
The latest season of "Killer Instinct" was released on March of this year, with Rash from "Battletoads," the Arbiter from "Halo," and General RAAM from "Gears of War" as the special guest characters.
