The rum-loving Jack Sparrow maybe taking his addiction to the home of Bacardi. According to a report movie website /Film, Puerto Rico will play host to the fifth film installment in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.
The fifth installment of the franchise has been in development since before "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" released in theaters. The purposed film has hit some roadblocks including having the script re-written and having producer Jerry Bruckheimer focused on "The Lone Ranger."
Filming in Puerto Rico will be a change of scenery for the film franchise as all previous Pirates movies were shot in Hawaii. Although some scences from the fourth film in the series "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" were filmed in Puerto Rico.
Last year Puerto Rico introduce legislation aimed at brining film and television production to the island and have already seen result having attracted 30 productions and nearly $80 million in investment, according to a press release by the Puerto Rico Department of Economics.
Pirate's star Johnny Depp filmed "The Rum Diary," in Puerto Rico last year. The legislation act offers a 20 percent production tax credit to all non-residents.
The reported budgets of the previous title in the series "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" was $250 million and the budget of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" was $300 million and are among the top 10 most expensive films ever made.
The movie website /Film also reported via CaribbeanBusinessPR.com that the film could potentially start filming this November in Puerto Rico. This would likely mean the movie would release in the summer of 2014. However, Disney has said that the /Film's report was inaccurate, But did confirmed that the movie is in development.
