Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - XBox 360 Version Cancelled in Japan, Still On for US Release

Konami has announced that it's cancelled the XBox 360 version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in Japan, making it an exclusive PS3 title. While they didn't address the reason for the cancellation, it is known that Microsoft never completely penetrated the console market in Japan, who seems to be a bit more attached to its native companies like Sony and Nintendo.

Apologizing to any Japanese gamers that were disappointed by the news, Konami did confirm with Eurogamer that the game will still be making its way to stateside XBox 360's.

Rising sees Metal Gear's resident cyborg Raiden slice n' dice as more machine than man. Set nine years after Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Raiden has since gone to work for the private military and security company, Maverick Security Consulting Inc. Far different from the stealth style gameplay of past Metal Gears, Rising is all about the action. Rising's creative producer, Shigenobu Matsuyama describes the game's stealth sequences as "hunting stealth." Armed with a high frequency blade that can cut through steel like a hot knife through butter, players use a sophisticated cutting system to command Raiden to hack n' slash through hordes of enemies.

Currently under development by Platinum Games, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 consoles on Feb. 19 in the U.S.
