Nintendo fix incoming! Late in August, Nintendo sent out invitations for a major announcement concerning their new console, the Wii U. The invitation claimed the event would teach consumers "more about the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment." That event is set to go off tomorrow morning. While they're still not specifically mentioning what about the Wii U they'll be discussing, expect to get some information about when you can buy it, and how much it will cost.
Why?
Well, because Nintendo's president said so. Satoru Iwata took to twitter, saying (translated) " "Good evening, it's Iwata from Nintendo. Tomorrow at 4pm [Japanese time] we'll broadcast online the Wii U's sale information. We'll tell you when the Wii U will launch and how much for."
Since that's around 3AM EST, and if you may not speak Japanese, it's understandable if you'd rather wait for Nintendo of America president Riggie Fils-Aime to give the same information. Nintendo recently loaded up a video on YouTube with Fils-Aime to tease the event.
For anyone that can't make it out to the Big Apple, not a problem. Nintendo will be streaming the event on both their facebook page.
Nintendo's been tiptoeing around giving any pricing for the console. During this year's E3 Iwata pegged the retail cost at more than 20,000 yen, the equivalant of $250, saying only "This is not going to be cheap." Granted, "cheap" is a relative term. Fils-Aime also uses the $250 amount as a benchmark of sorts. Comparing the Wii U launch price to other consoles at launch, Reggie thinks that people will be pleasantly surprised. "Nintendo believes in being a mass market product, so unlike our competitors when they've launched historical systems to maybe start at a really high price and work their way down, we don't believe in that...We want to launch at a price that's going to represent an ongoing great value...You look at the Wii. Wii stayed at $250 for a really long time, and so we're going to give that same level of thought to the Wii U."
We'll find out more tomorrow.
