What do a fence hopping tagger, a man walking across hot coals with bare feet, and a woman swimming in a flooded living room have in common? Usually the answer is absolutely nothing, but for one reason or another, they're all a part of the new commercial for Guild Wars 2.
One commenter tried his hand at making heads and tails of the trailer, but I don't know: "The trailer is a metaphor saying this game, like the trailer for it, is different than everything else out there. The first guy covered in white stuff represents the players bored and put to sleep with all the old mmorpgs, waking up for gw2. Same with the guy stepping on the burning coal, the players trying the game for the firs time. The girl swimming represents the transition from the old to the new, gw2 (the gameplay footage)."
And the woman spray painting grafitti is...well...eye candy is the only guess I can muster.
Directed by the same man behind "V for Vendetta," James McTeigue, the trailer is obviously highly stylized, but as Guild Wars 2's story revolves around the re-awakening of five mythical dragons, is it relevant to the game itself? Not a shot in hell.
Yes, the game came out in late August, so this may be a bit late for a TV spot, but it's done primarily to let people know that the game is now back on sale on the game's official website. Sales were previously suspended while ArenaNet tried to fix problems with the game reported soon after the launch.
A living, breathing world where events occur naturally and in response to players' actions, Guild Wars 2 is available now for PC.
