Although "Breaking Bad" fans are excited that Bryan Cranston will be appearing in the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie, the original Blue Ranger is apparently not too pleased.
David Yost, who played the Blue Ranger in the original TV series during the 1990s, stated on Twitter that he was not happy with Cranston's involvement in the "Power Rangers" movie.
Amy Jo Johnson, the original Pink Ranger, tweeted Yost about his thoughts about the "Breaking Bad" star joining the cast of the Power Rangers movie. The latter explained that he is not a fan of homophobes.
During an IGN interview in 2009, Bryan Cranston shared how he did voiceover work for the Saban series before the Power Rangers movie. He continued that Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger, was named for him and provided with the same last name.
However, Cranston implied that he was not particularly happy that it was the Blue Ranger that was given his last name. The actor said that Billy was the fey one and he had a problem with it.
The Blue Ranger will still have the same name in the "Power Rangers" movie, played by RJ Cyler.
Cinema Blend stated that David Yost shared in the past how he first left the series due to harassment over being gay. He was allegedly harassed regularly by both crew and cast members for his sexual orientation.
On the other hand, fans should give Bryan Cranston the benefit of the doubt in the Power Rangers movie. It has been several years since the interview and his opinions on homosexuals in the new "Power Rangers" movie may have changed through time.
Huffington Post wrote that Bryan Cranston will play Zordon in the "Power Rangers" movie. He said that he was initially reluctant to join the project, believing that it featured the same tone as the TV show until he talked to the producer and director and read the script.
He continued that the new Power Rangers movie had a darker tone, comparable to the recent Batman movie franchise. The new reimagined version will expectedly showcase several aspects and challenges that teenagers encounter.
The story may not be as gritty as the Batman films, but it will be more mature Power Rangers movie with a whole new approach, which Cranston appreciates.
The new "Power Rangers" movie is set to launch on Mar. 24, 2017. Other cast members include Becky G (Yellow Ranger), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger) and Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa).
