John Cena is one of the veterans that the WWE can count on but fans are taking note of his select appearances. As things stand now, Cena has been limited to major show appearances and kept off the minor ones.
Considering the WWE is struggling to jack up its ratings, the move has become conspicuous to the WWE critics and fans. Is John Cena slowing down?
John Cena is considered as someone who will eventually follow the footsteps of another WWE legend, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. For those who are not aware, “The Rock” appeared sparingly on WWE shows since 2001.
“The Rock’s” select appearances were a result of his outside commitments – particularly in Hollywood. And as everyone knows by now, Johnson has become a fixture in the big screen.
Cena is technically on the same route though many believe that the “Cenation” leader will not vanish that quickly. He is still big draw in the WWE and now is the time that Vince McMahon and company would need his expertise.
Rising stars failing to live up
Roman Reigns was pegged to help hoist the WWE banner but the “Big Dog” has somehow failed to live up to expectations. Much of the failure is pinned on the WWE, failing to come up with creative storylines that would endear the former “Shield” member to the WWE Universe.
Reigns is currently on suspension and the WWE has shifted to Dean Ambrose. While Ambrose has a following, Wrestlingnews.co bares that the “Lunatic Fringe’s” run is not that far from the efforts of his good friend Roman Reigns.
Given those facts, John Cena is still needed. Even at 38, he knows how to play the crowd and play both face and heel. He isn’t bothered by the boos and jeers and apparently he can still pack shows.
With the WWE brand split fast approaching, John Cena could end up at Smackdown. But the landscape could change if he continues to make scarce appearances.
John Cena is expected to be at WWE Battleground. After that, it remains to be seen if his appearances may start to pick up. Assuming the inevitable, the WWE may have to go with another guy moving forward. The question though is who?
