"Game of Thrones" Season 6 has just confirmed that there is more than just one Targaryen left in the Seven Kingdoms. The final episode of the sixth season revealed that Jon Snow is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, making him the second head of the prophesized Three-Headed Dragon.
But where is the third head? In George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, a third possible Targaryen has already been introduced. Why Is Aegon Targaryen So Important To "Game Of Thrones" Season 7?
In the novel "A Clash of Kings", Daenerys Targaryen sees a vision of her brother Rhaegar with his infant son Aegon. In the vision, Rhaegar talks about how the dragon must have three heads and that Aegon is the second head. There is a possibility that the Three-Headed Dragon in "Game of Thrones" Season 7 will be Daenerys, Jon Snow and Aegon Targaryen.
Aegon Targaryen meets Tyrion Lannister in the book "A Dance with Dragons", although the boy dyes his hair blue and goes by the name Young Griff. Tyrion later tells Aegon that he knows the boy's true identity and news of Aegon's survival finally reach King's Landing.
Will Aegon Targaryen Finally Be Introduced In "Game of Thrones" Season 7?
While Aegon Targaryen has a big role in "A Song of Ice and Fire", there are speculations that the character will not be brought to "Game of Thrones" Season 7. However, Aegon's importance as part of the Three-Headed Dragon Prophesy still has fans hoping for his eventual introduction in the HBO series.
