XBox 720 Facing Possible Delays

If tech site SemiAccurate is right, then it looks like we'll all have to learn to be even more patient for Microsoft's next console. It's reported that the new processor, dubbed "Oban," for the system is facing a production delay.

The site claims that "yields on the chip are said to be something painfuly low, Nvidia Fermi painfully low, and worse than that."

I'm not quite up to date on the Nvidia reference tech talk, but I think we all recognize that "painfully low" is not a good thing.

Semi believes that while Microsoft may have anticipated this problem, it still has potential to affect to console's release. You know, the one they haven't announced yet. As far as rumors go, a source has allegedly told the site that Microsft currently has a September 2013 launch for the Xbox 720.

Sounds reasonable, and it's still keeping in time with what GameStop CEO Paul Raines has heard. He recently told Polygon he was, "getting a lot of rumors that are very interesting about 2013. We have not been expecting two more consoles in 2013. We're expecting Wii U this holiday, another one next year, and another one in '14. These rumors change every week, but we're hearing more about next year."

As per usual, Microsoft has yet to comment.
