A new entry to the Western-themed first-person shooter Call of Juarez franchise is on the way. Ubisoft has announced Call of Duty Juarez: Gunslinger, which will release on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC in early 2013.
The last game in the franchise Call of Juarez: The Cartel was a departure from the series because in took place in modern Los Angeles. The game's plot revolved around the bombing of one of the offices of the Drug Enforcement Administration by unknown assailants. Eddie Guerra is the only survivor of the bombing. He joins Assistant Deputy Director Shane Dickson, detective Ben McCall and FBI agent Kimberly Evans to track down the culprits who are believed to be part of the Mendoza Cartel.
Call of Juarez: The Cartel protagonist Ben McCall is an LAPD detective and Vietnam veteran who is a descendent of the original game's Billy Candle.
Gunslinger appears to be return the franchise to its Old West roots, according to the game's teaser trailer which features an western saloon and actors in full cowboy attire.
According to the game publisher the new game Gunslinger "is a real homage to the Wild West tales" and allows gamers to "live the epic and violent journey of a ruthless bounty hunter onto the trail of the West's most notorious outlaws."
Ubisoft says Gunslinger will expose "the untold truth behind some of the greatest legends of the Old West," including Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, Jesse James and more. The game will feature "ruthless, all out gun battles" and lets players use pistols and rifles to "unleash lethal combos" and "gun down multiple enemies in split seconds." Players will also be able to choose specific gun fighting skills and "develop and acquire new shooting abilities to become the West's finest gunslinger."
Gunslinger will be the fourth game in the franchise with all the games in the series having been developed by the Polish developer Techland. No other detail have been announced.
