"Supernatural" closed its eleventh year on television with the return of Mary Winchester, an event that Dean may have been waiting for 11 years now. But between that and Amara's reunion with her brother and eventual departure, there's still a lot of loose ends that need to be tied up once the show comes back in October.
For one, fans still don't know what happened to Sam after Toni holds him at gunpoint. Of course, Sam could not be wiped out of the game, as he is one half of what the show is all about. But what are the repurcussions of Toni's actions, and what will become of him come season 12?
Back in June, Ackles and Padalecki spoke to TV Line to share their thoughts on what will become of their characters in "Supernatural" season 12. In fact, Ackles shared that he would love to revisit Purgatory, where Castiel originally scooped him up to bring back to life. The actor thought it might be something "cool" to revisit, and added that he enjoyed the "monster-of-the-week" format of the show, which was evident during the first few seasons of the long-running series.
Padalecki, on the other hand, hopes for more interaction between his character and Misha Collins' Castiel. This makes sense, as the two spent the last few moments of the season finale together, hopefully forming a bond before Toni banished Castiel. Padalecki is looking forward to more scenes that feature Sam and Castiel, which fans could hopefully see once "Supernatural" season 12 airs on The CW in October.
Meanwhile, Ackles told Access Hollywood that he had already read the teaser for the upcoming season, which involves the return of Sam and Dean's mother.
"That's the biggest question, right? What is she doing back? Why is she back? What's happening? I don't have any answers," Ackles admitted. Fans may find this hard to believe, as filming for the 12th season should begin around this time.
"Supernatural" season 12 premieres on October 13 on The CW.
