It's been two years since Marvel released their latest animated film endeavor in the form of the box office hit, "Big Hero 6," which featured some relatively unknown, seemingly multi-racial characters from an obscure comic book.
Marvel and Disney's daring endeavor seemed to pay off, however, as the film yielded $657.8 million worldwide, a figure that's more than enough to create a sequel. Early last year, actress Genesis Rodriguez, who breathed life into the character Honey Lemon, candidly talked about the possibility of a "Big Hero 6" sequel.
She admitted to Screen Rant that the company may look into creating a sequel given the massive success of the film. "Big Hero 6" was indeed a huge success, as evidenced by the Academy Award it won for Best Animated Feature.
Even Stan Lee himself thinks Disney should do a sequel, as he may have hinted at it during an interview with the Toronto Sun in April last year. Lee said, "I don’t even know how they decide what to do next, because every one of them is so exciting and the public is waiting for them."
Given the timeline of Marvel flicks, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Captain America: Civil War" can already be ticked off the list. The Scott Derrickson-directed "Doctor Strange" and James Gunn-helmed "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" are going to be released this October 26 and April 25, 2017, respectively, so Disney is still probably plotting their schedules for a "Big Hero 6" sequel film.
The company did announce, however, that "Big Hero 6" will be coming to television via Disney XD next year. The project will be headed by "Kim Possible" creators Mark McCorkie and Bob Schooley. Meanwhile, fans can get nostalgic with "Big Hero 6" with the Screen Junkies' newly released Honest Trailer, that not only points out funny details about the film, but also features praises for the Disney animated endeavor.
