A small U.S Space craft plunges across the blackness of space. The craft ruptures the orange-colored atmosphere of an unknown planet. An astronaut emerges from the depths of the ship. He is surrounded by a barren and desolate landscape. There is nothing but sand and rock formations.
This is not what the astronaut could have imagined during his childhood night's contemplating the galactic complexities and dreaming of extraterrestrial life. He moves forward towards the nothing, traveling through cavernous paths and leaping from cliff to cliff. His efforts are rewarded as he finds remnants of civilization. There are power line and small homes. What has he found and where is he? A tattered and beaten Soviet flag flutters in the desert wind.
This is how the trailer for new independent game Lifeless Planet begins.
Lifeless Planet is a new cinematic sci-fi adventure game by game creator David Board and Stage 2. The game is an independent game that has been funded by "backers" who have donated to the studio. Lifeless Planet will be released for the PC and Mac. The studio also hopes to bring the game to other platforms including iOS, Android, and XBOX Live Arcade.
According to the game's website the game is an "intriguing story and spectacular environments in the spirit of classic adventures like ICO, The Dig, and Another World."
Lifeless Planet's official plot is about an astronaut on mission to seek life on a distant planet, He discovers an abandoned Russian laboratory and believes that his mission is a hoax. He soon encounters a mysterious young woman, who saves his life from a "deadly phenomenon."
"Lifeless Planet is more than just a video game," Board wrote on the game's official site. It's the expression of my passion for creating media that inspires. I'm trying to deliver something different from what you usually get from the big studios and publishers."
