"The Hobbit," is a wonderful children's fantasy novel and children book by "Lord of the Rings" author J. R. R. Tolkien. The Hobbit follows the quest of home-loving hobbit Bilbo Baggins, as he accompanies a party of dwarves and attempts to win a share of the treasure guarded by the dragon, Smaug.

The book is about 300-plus pages and deals with personal growth and forms of heroism during war and danger. It is in short a great prequel to the hardier "Lord of the Rings."

Director peter Jackson did a wonderful and award winning job on recreating the "Lord of the Rings" on film and is of course working on the prequel film "The Hobbit." But Jackson has already decided to break the story into three films. At first it was only going to be two films with the subtitles "An Unexpected Journey" and "There And Back Again."

The second film in "The Hobbit Trilogy" will be "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," and will release on Dec. 13, 2013 in 2D, 3D, IMAX. While the final film will be titled "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," and It will release on July 18, 2014. All three films in new trilogy will be available in both 24 fps and 48 fps.

"Opening in July affords us not only the perfect summer tentpole, but fans will have less time to wait for the finale of this epic adventure," said Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The first film, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," releases in theaters on Dec. 14.
