Gamers who were hoping to be among the first to get the PlayStation VR headsets upon release will have to wait until the gear officially comes out. Apparently the allocated PSVR has sold out.
Game Spot reveals that pre-ordered allocation of the PlayStation VR sold out in minutes. This means that people who were unable to get one will have to wait until October 13 to get hold of a pair. Sony announced that they have no plans of further pre-order opportunities.
Pre Order sales a sign of things to come?
The fact that the PlayStation VR headsets sold out so quickly is a good sign of things to come for Sony. Compared to the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, Sony may want to make sure that new units that will likely be demanded are ready by the time it officially launches in October.
According to Forbes, the Sony PlayStation VR headset could be a bigger success to other virtual reality gear out in the market. Much of that is attributed to the fact that the PSVR doesn’t need computers with high specs to enjoy. All it needs is the aid of the company’s popular came console, the Sony PlayStation 4.
Additionally, the PlayStation VR headset comes at a pretty affordable price of $350. Though it was not reported, it could have been one factor that resulted in sold out pre-ordered stocks.
Learn from past pre-order failures
While the clout that the PlayStation VR has generated is something perhaps even Sony failed to foresee, there are still questions in mind. That includes the ability of its hardware to sustain its level of quality and performance.
The PlayStation VR did come up with a good showing during press events but the story could be different when it goes official. All that will depend upon launch which is expected to include a suite of new games tailored for the PSVR.
