As one of the most popular franchises in videogames, I can't say I was surprised when EA announced that Madden 13 sold 900,000 copies in its first day of sales alone, according to EA's internal estimates. A press release reports that this number is a 7 percent increase over last year's day-one sales for Madden 12.
EA didn't say how the number was divvied up from platform to platform, but I estimate it somewhere around "a lot" on PS3, and "a ton" for XBox 360.
"Madden NFL 13 is the most innovative entry the franchise has ever seen and we're thrilled that fans have embraced it with such a huge first day," said Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice President of EA SPORTS. "As we approach the kickoff of the NFL season next week, the football community is whetting their appetites by playing Madden NFL 13 in record numbers. With the combination of the cutting-edge Infinity Engine and new Connected Careers fans are truly getting their football fix with the best Madden NFL game ever."
Madden 13 also set the record for the number of day-one users playing a Madden title online as well. Not only are fans playing it, but they're talking about it too. Since the game's launch, there have been over 600,000 total social interactions on Facebook and Twitter combined, and the game has been mentioned on average every six seconds on Twitter.
