The "System Shock" reboot recently went live on Kickstarter. The creative team is planning to make a reimagined version of the classic cyberpunk shooter by raising $900,000 via a crowdfunding campaign on the platform.
Night Dive Studios, which re-launched the original "System Shock" in 2015, promised to come up with a fully revamped version of the title.
The Kickstarter page provided some of the details on the planned project, which is scheduled to release in December 2017.
So far, the campaign has raked in $80,000 in the first hour, so fans are optimistic the developers will reach their target before the deadline on July 28, 2016.
On its Kickstarter page, "System Shock" is described as a modern take on the original game and is expected to be a faithful reboot. Citadel Station will be featured as gamers remember it.
There will be plenty of overhauls and changes are currently being introduced to showcase the spirit of the original game and deliver it to contemporary players.
Robb Waters, the concept artist of the original title, will reimagine the enemies, weapons and locations.
The new game will include an updated interface, musical score, game mechanics and puzzle to showcase modern sensibilities and aesthetics.
Terri Brosius will also return to voice Shodan, the legendary enemy.
Night Dive told Polygon that modern graphics can feature a sense of fear and isolation that the original game could not adequately handle with its pixelated designs.
Citadel Station is the main setting, a corporate research base whose artificial intelligence system has acquired self-awareness and considered herself a god.
The game is not related to the upcoming "System Shock 3" being developed by another studio.
Fans have a number of requests which they hope will appear in the new game, such as upgradable rocket boosts, cyborg ninjas, lasers, puzzles, mazes and other odd creatures like mutant gorilla tigers and flying manta rays.
PCGamer mentioned that the demo for "System Shock" is already available on Steam, Humble and GOG.
