“Suicide Squad” is still a long way off as far as making its big screen debut set for August 5. But at the rate that character posters, trailers and even music videos are coming out, it hardly comes as a surprise why the Warner Bros. film has become a phenomenon on social media.
According to Deadline, “Suicide Squad” has generated more conversations on social media after amassing a whopping 66K last week. The figures come from ComScore’s PreAct covering the period of June 17 to 23, beating out other big films.
Among the films that it beat out include Disney’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” which will debut on Dec. 16 and the Harry Potter spin-off film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” set to hit theaters on Nov. 18.
In the event that some argue that the films being compared to are a long way off and hence not doing much promotion, maybe some other films set for release this month could be a better comparison.
“Ghostbusters” (July 15) and “Star Trek Beyond” (July 22) could be worthier films for comparison. Based on the total conversations on Pre-Act, 1.3 M are beating the buzz on both.
Is the “Suicide Squad” that good? Blame it on the revelations made so far. There was that Jared Leto “Joker” character poster revelation as well as the Harley Quinn character portrayed by Margo Robbie. Those account for the hype and the numbers are obviously showing according to Yahoo.

Speaking of posters, Leto and Robbie are not the sole characters getting exposure. Batman-News stumbled across two international posters showing the cast. Aside from Leto and Robbie, Will Smith leads the cast of other members of “Suicide Squad” or “Task Force X”.
