Beyond the recent announcement that Metal Gear is finally getting its own movie, attendees of this evening's Metal Gear 25th anniversary event in Japan are informing the masses via Twitter of a new game coming to the Metal Gear Solid series. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes adds another stealth chapter to the franchise, and if the picture is any indication, it features a much younger Snake, so it's either a younger Big Boss, or a pre-Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Solid Snake.
Joystiq reports the demo as "showing Snake infiltrating a rain-drenched compound, avoiding search lights, offing a guard, driving a jeep and then summoning a helicopter in a seamless, open-world environment. The description meshes with designer Hideo Kojima's cryptic commentary on 'Project Ogre,' which he described as 'very free.'"
Open world environment, huh? Interesting...
As soon as the demo is released, we'll be sure to post up a video, but from what we hear now, we understand it's pretty impressive.
Also at the event, Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops was announced by Konami as an upcoming smartphone game. The game's first trailer was unveiled, showcasing its 3D graphics in the Unity engine. A worlddie release is planned for later this year.
According to Andriasang, Social Ops revisits stories from previous MGS games, which explains the massive Metal Gear reunion picture below. As such, it seems to incorporate a collection of different features from past Metal Gear games. It will feature a card-based battle system, not unlike the Metal Gear Ac!d series, and has Mother Base development options like the ones seen in Peace Walker. We'll post more information as it becomes available, but for now, check out the shots below to tide you over for now.
