The Sony Xperia Z6 is a device that was in the heat of discussions before 2015 came to a close. After that, the mobile phone variant from the Z series line somehow saw its hype fizzle and leading many to believe that it may have been cut from the Sony roster.
The Sony Xperia Z6 was one device many had expected to be on hand at the MWC 2016 and IFA 2016. It was a no-show on both events and such was the catalyst seen as far as consumers questioning whether it would still be coming or not.
Jun Makino, senior product marketing manager for Sony Mobile initially said they would not be releasing the Xperia Z6, uSwitch reported. Sony would later on clarify with Tech Radar that they have not ruled out the line completely.
With that said, MotoringCrunch are playing with the idea that the Sony Xperia Z6 may have been discontinued. Focus may have been diverted to the Xperia X series, an expensive line though not considered the flagship brand of Sony claims NSEAVoice.
Depending on how one analyzes the situation, the Sony Xperia Z6 may not be totally dead. A logical approach to understand it is that Sony may have temporarily shelved the anticipated smartphone line as Sony focuses on building the Xperia X series per MobiPicker.
Further to that claim, it is believed that the Sony Xperia Z6 is still in development which could hint at a possible coming in 2017. Among the touted features of the Z6 include that of its ability to transform into a game controller.
With that feature, the Xperia Z6 could easily integrate with other Sony products such as its PlayStation game consoles. It will also reportedly be VR compatible which may tie it up with Sony’s PSVR, something that hardly comes as a surprise seeing how other handsets have been slowly doing the same.
Aside from those two features, rumors suggest that the Xperia Z6 will come with Force Touch display, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and an improved camera among others.
