"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is set to launch in the fall of 2016. The show was set in a new timeslot and Season 4 will reportedly take on a darker and edgier tone.
The end of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 3 featured the powerful Inhuman, Hive, planning to spread the Terrigen Mist throughout the surface of Earth, although he was stopped. Coulson apparently stepped down as director of the agency in a flash forward scene.
In the meantime, Holden Radcliffe, a transhumanist scientist, is getting ready to introduce the androids Life Model Decoys to the world. Here are five things to expect in the new season.
1. Hellfire
Comicbook stated that Marvel has been teasing a fiery chain in future episodes, which hinted the return of the Inhuman Hellfire. The character was part of a Daisy Johnson's Secret Warriors group in the comics.
Some fans believe that it may actually be Ghost Rider being referred to. Both Hellfire and Ghost Rider use a flaming chain as a weapon.
2. Daisy on the run
Bleeding Cool wrote that "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 will return with Daisy trying to get away from Phil Coulson, while the mysterious new director of the agency observes both of them.
3. The new timeslot
The show has been moved to 10 p.m. on ABC, giving the story more space in terms of content. Showrunners have been planning to feature a grittier and darker story in the new season.
The transfer to the new timeslot hints that new content not shown in previous seasons may finally appear.
4. A new S.H.I.E.L.D. director
International Business Times reported that previously, Coulson has been demoted, leaving the position of agency director open. It is very likely that someone from the regular cast will take on the role of new director.
According to actor Clark Gregg, Agent Melinda would be his pick for director. He explained that the agent has earned the right and is a commander that even Coulson would be loyal to and follow.
5. Rise of the androids
Based on the scene showing Radcliffe busy working on the Life Model Decoys, the androids will most likely be a major part of Season 4. The agency will have to deal with the effects of the new creation, as well as more Inhumans.
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 has been confirmed to premiere on Sept. 20, 2016.
