J.K. Rowling wrote a new short story about what fans described as an American Hogwarts. The Harry Potter author introduced readers to a new female hero who helped in the creation of the North American counterpart o Hogwarts.
The institution, called Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was partly founded by an Irish girl named Isolt Sayre. The short story focuses on the new female protagonist and will most likely provide Harry Potter fans with a nostalgic feeling.
The plot involves drama, friendship, love and betrayal and also serves as a preparation stage for more stories about the character, if Rowling would be interested in extending the short story into a series.
Fans will spot a number of elements that originated in the Harry Potter series in the American Hogwarts, although it is generally an independent tale.
Polygon cited that the American Hogwarts short story is Rowling's second take on magic in North America. The author also delved into magical creatures and the different species that the four houses in Ilvermorny School was named after.
Her initial work, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is currently being adapted into film, starring Eddie Redmayne.
The movie is set to launch on Nov. 18, 2016. Also, Rowling has been shown to be writing about more wizarding schools around the world, such as in Japan, Brazil and Uganda.
Pottermore featured an introductory video on the North American Hogwarts. Fans can discover their Ilvermorny house in a brand new Sorting Ceremony. The four houses are Horned Serpent, Thunderbird, Pukwudgie and Wampus.
The Horned Serpent is a great horned river serpent that has a jewel set in its forehead. The Pukwudgie is a short creature with a grey face and large ears.
The Thunderbird is a magical creature that can stir storms while flying. The Wampus is a magical creature that looks like a panther. It is strong, fast and almost impossible to kill.
Readers are invited to read "Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" to find out more about how the mysterious establishment started, as well as get details about its founder Isolt Sayre.
Entertainment Weekly wrote that similar to Hogwarts, the American school also arranges students into the four houses, depending on their traits. Thunderbirds are the souls and like adventure.
The Horned Serpents are the scholars and tend to be aloof. The Pukwudgies have heart and are healers. The Wampus are warriors.
More updates and details about the North American Hogwarts, Ilvermorny, are expected soon.
