Chris Eubank Jr. is coming off a big win against Tom Doran last weekend and now the British middleweight champion wants to ride the momentum and fight knockout artist Gennady Golovkin.
Eubank dismantled Doran in four rounds at the O2 Arena in London, his first fight since ending the career of Nick Blackwell. While he turned out another marvelous display, Eubank did show off some kinks which could prove costly against Golovkin, according to the Telegraph.
That included taking unnecessary punches, lack of true power to finish off his opponent and showboating. Against Triple G, Eubank cannot afford to do the same.
Nevertheless, Eubank is unfazed by the power that Golovkin brings to the ring. He is aware that he needs to fully prepare against the Kazakh knockout artist and mentioned that his training camp starts now.
Both Eubank and Golovkin share something in common – they love to dismantle their opponents. But in the eyes of critics, Eubank is approaching the potential matchup in a different light filled with confidence.
“He’s not indestructible, he’s not the bogeyman, whatever you guys want to call him. He has two arms, two legs and a heartbeat just like me. I can and I will beat him,” said Eubank via Boxing News Online.
Negotiations are expected to kick off between the two camps though finalizing the details is expected to take some time. Both fighters and their promoters want to make it happen though other parties involved will likely be the reason behind delays.
If all goes well, Eubank and Golovkin could end up facing each other either in August or September per Boxing News 24. The fight should be a good alternative to the botched Golovkin and Canelo “Saul” Alvarez fight, something that may take place in 2017 instead according to a report from Sky Sports.
