BBC's "Top Gear" co-hosts Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans are not bonding too well lately. LeBlanc reportedly threatened to quit the show if Chris Evans stays.
In February 2016, LeBlanc and Evans were slated to become the main presenters of Top Gear. Other members of the team include race driver Sabine Schmitz, F1 writer Eddie Jordan, motoring journalist Rory Reid and YouTube star Chris Harris. The show relaunched in May 2016, and has steadily been improving. However, the rift between the two co-hosts have constantly developed throughout the first season, leading LeBlanc to warn producers that he will quit if Evans does not.
According to insiders, tension between Evans and the "FRIENDS" star continued to grow after Matt kept on getting frustrated with Chris's rudeness and frosty attitude towards the rest of their group. The actor reportedly told "Top Gear" producers that he no longer wants to work with Evans on another project.
BBC already agreed to pay LeBlanc for two series and are currently left with the decision to pick one host over the other. There are also rumors that a second series, set to start filming in September 2016, may not be launched at all as the producers make their crucial decision.
One source told The Sun that the "Top Gear" team does not blend well at all. The atmosphere has remained frosty as Chris tries to have everyone else revolve around him. Other members of the team are also reportedly upset with Chris for being antagonistic.
The host allegedly does not encourage those who were new to studio recording and is not interested in spending time with the rest back stage, resulting to a stiff appearance onscreen. Also, Evans was jealous of how Chris Harris and Rory Reid were appreciated. Many have already requested for Evans to be replaced.
ScreenRant wrote that on the other hand, LeBlanc was praised as an asset of "Top Gear." In the third episode, Matt had more airtime than Chris, which delighted viewers. Matt's spokeswoman stated that nothing has been discussed or decided about the issue yet.
LeBlanc is currently bound for Los Angeles to film another show series. If he decides to leave soon, BBC is still bound to pay him for the second season, as previously agreed.
The season finale of "Top Gear" is set to air on July 3, 2016 on BBC Two and BBC America. More updates and details on Matt LeBlanch and Chris Evans' feud are expected to surface soon.
