In the NFL's dog days of summer, fans and the media are not allowed to see what the coaches see during practices, team meetings and film sessions. They do not have insight about the team's decisions involving player personal or how individuals are progressing.
Each season, EA Sports the developer of the long running Madden NFL video game franchise is tasked with speculating, judging and finally rating every player in the video game. So how has the game maker handled rating a media darling like Timothy Richard Tebow? Well it seems they just kind of left things as they were at the end of last season.
Tebow's final rating in Madden NFL '12 was a 77 rating, he will have the same rating this season in Madden NFL 13.
The rating comes as a bit of a surprise, after Tebow led his former team the Broncos to a historic overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in last season's playoffs. He was bursting with on the field promise and the hope that his skills would continue to progress.
Tebow was traded to the New York Jets this past offseason, after the Denver Broncos signed future NFL Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning. He will now serves as a backup to the Jets' incumbent starter Mark Sanchez. The Jets' have decided to use Tebow in a specialized role, most likely as their wildcat quarterback.
Although it appears that Tebow's rating has stayed the same, it has in fact change to reflect his numbers from last season. According to a Yahoo!Sports' interview with Madden NFL's Ratings Czar Donny Moore.
"Tim Tebow finished in Madden NFL '12 as a 77 OVR (overall ranking) and he starts out Madden NFL 13 as a 77 as well," Moore told Yahoo!Sports."Tebow's "Deep Accuracy" numbers have increased from last season and his "Carry" rating has lowered based off of his 2011 season metrics."
