'Hamilton' Adds July 12 Performance To Raise Funds For The Hillary Clinton Campaign

Hillary Clinton is getting a campaign boost from the Tony Award-winning "Hamilton," which was announced to have added a July 12th date for the presidential candidate's fundraiser. The event is organized by the Hillary Victory Fund, and tickets for the matinee performance begin at $2,700 and range up to $100,000 for "event chair" tickets, a special package that includes two premium seats, access to a wrap party with the presidential hopeful herself, and an invitation to the Democratic National Convention.

"Hamilton The Musical," which music, lyrics, and book is created by and stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, has garnered numerous awards during its run, including the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The production broke records when it was nominated for 16 Tony Awards this year, and won 11 out of the 16 categories for which it was nominated, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Actor (Leslie Odom, Jr.) and Actress (Phillipa Soo) in a Musical, Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire).

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Hillary Victory Fund is also holding a contest to give supporters a chance at two tickets to see the July 12 performance, complete with free flight and hotel accommodations.

"When I first saw the musical Hamilton last year, I was blown away," Clinton wrote in an email. "It’s an incredible feat of storytelling about the fight for the heart and soul of our very nation. It’s a look at history that feels immediately relevant today. It’s a beautiful piece of art with empathy to spare."

Miranda, who was born and raised in New York City by Puerto Rican immigrant parents, promised to use his influence as one of the biggest Broadway stars today to help get Latinos to vote in the upcoming presidential elections.

"I think it’s very clear that Latinos living in the United States—their interests are bound up in voting this year, and I’ll leave it at that, but making sure people turn out is going to be a priority for me," the 36-year old thespian told The Daily Beast. Miranda is stepping away from his role as Alexander Hamilton with his last show on July 9, but will be part of the upcoming "Mary Poppins" film together with Emily Blunt. He has also written songs for the upcoming Disney film, "Moana."

The "Hamilton" musical special performance for the Hillary Victory Fund will be held on July 12, coinciding with Alexander Hamilton's death anniversary. Tickets can be purchased through hillaryclinton.com.
