Prior to the coming "Civilization 6" release date, Firaxis was kind enough to showcase the still unreleased game the recent E3 event. What was revealed, however, was a little bit of "Civilization 6" gameplay that had Civ addicts hungry for more.
The Civilization series is perhaps one of the longest running strategy game series. The first Civilization game was released way back in 1991 which, for players could only mean two and a half decades of plotting and scheming to be the ultimate ruler of the world.
"Civilization 6" would most likely be highly addictive like all its predecessors. Hours, and sometimes even days would just melt away once a player gets immersed in the very challenging, complicated and yet, very satisfying world of civilization.
'Civilization 6' Gameplay - Firaxis Introduces Districts Into Civ
From what was revealed in E3, what stands out is the way players build their cities in "Civilization 6." In past Civ versions, players build all city improvements on a single tile on the map. That is, the entire city is represented as a single tile or square in the Civilization map.
For example if one were to build an improvement, say courthouse or library, the player just had to click on the tile where the city is located and click build among the options. The player would not have to worry where to place it, it's just there once completed. Additional buildings are also done in the same way; they just sort of arrange themselves or stack themselves in a single square on the map.
On the other hand, the new game offers a more exciting "Civilization 6" gameplay. The new game now allows for a sprawling city planning so a single city can now occupy several hexes on the map, reports Kotaku. But the way they're calling it hexes now not tiles because the shape of a single map unit in the new "Civilization 6" game is a hexagon.
Firaxis decided to introduce a new mechanics that makes a more dynamic city-building "Civilization 6" gameplay. It's called the district system, where players can actually assign a single hex into a specific district type like religious districts, market districts, industrial, military and so on. Buildings will now appear on their corresponding districts such as library and university on scientific districts while barracks appear on military districts.
But The Best Parts That Makes Civilization Games Great Remain
But of course, the game is not about city building at all, to clarify to those who will play the game for the first time when "Civilization 6" release date arrives. While the ultimate goal of the game is still world domination, the journey to reach there varies with player temperament.
Military strategist type gamers can still opt for a military victory in "Civilization 6." Players of these type needs to research and produce the latest weapons and ensure control of the resources necessary for production like oil, rubber, steel and coal.
Players who want to utilize their Machiavellian nature can enter into treaties like mutual protection and induce fighting among neighbors while remaining relatively scot-free. Players can negotiate with the likes of Cleopatra, Gandhi, Napoleon, Montezuma and Catherine. They may be polite but players should not be complacent and let their guard down. These "Civilization 6" AI opponents are said to be getting more intelligent and tends to go into tantrums if they don't get their way.
So much could written about "Civilization 6" because basically the player deals with all the complications of building a civilization that stands the test of time as well as warlike rival civilizations. Wars, taxes, barbarians, population moods, espionage, scientific research, cultural influence, nuclear weapons, the list of variables are very lengthy indeed. "Civilization 6" is probably the best strategy game out there if one has an entire day to dedicate to the game. Even then, one day might not be enough.
