While most of us get hyped up on the idea of a Marvel Comics turning to a superhero movie, "Independence Day" director Roland Emmerich despises it. In his latest interview he disclosed why he hates movies with capes and all the superhero things that goes with it.
"When you look at my movies it's always the regular Joe Schmo that's the unlikely hero. A lot of Marvel movies, they show people in funny suits running around," he told The Guardian. "I don't like people in capes. I find it silly when someone dons a superhero suit and flies. I don't understand it. I grew up in Germany, that's probably why."
Can you blame him? After all, Emmerich has worked on blockbuster films such as "Godzilla," "The Day After Tomorrow" and, now, "Independence Day: Resurgence" movie. Despite the near to similar concepts on what type of movies he does and the superhero concept that he despise, he still thinks that Marvel turned to movies is something he can pass on.
Roland Emmerich, who hails from Germany, admits his countrymen had less faith on his capability as a director and while he did at least four movies in Germany during his primal years in the industry, only the first two movies received positive reviews. When he did the other two, Ghost Chase and Moon 44 in English, his critics didn't give the credit he deserved and as he says, he received some scathing reviews.
He also doesn't appreciate comparing his works to the superhero concept of Marvel movies. Of course they share the same passion in destroying things around them, in making the movie as action filled as possible, but no, he denies his movies have anything to do with that type of genre.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" will hit the cinemas starting June 23, Thursday.
