'Indiana Jones 5' Release Date, News, Rumors & Update: Steven Spielberg Not ‘Killing’ ‘Indy’ In 2019? More Details Here

Harrison Ford will return as “Indiana Jones” aka “Dr. Henry Jones Jr.” for “Indiana Jones 5” in 2019 in what many expect to be the multi-awarded character’s last.

At 77, Ford’s final appearance is a no-brainer and many are expecting a proper send-off similar to the one he had on “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens”.

To recall, Ford’s “Han Solo” character got killed by his own son “Kylo Ren” (Adam Driver).

J.J. Abrams explained via Cinema Blend why death to one of the beloved “Star Wars” icons had to happen and it involved setting up “Kylo Ren’s” evolution of the new villain.

Could 'Indiana Jones 5' follow the same script?

If director Steven Spielberg’s recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter is any indication, it looks like the plot for “Indiana Jones 5” will not follow the same route.

While the obvious twist would see “Indy” being killed off and passing the torch on to someone else, Spielberg and Ford are not too keen on the idea.

Both are aware that doing so would mean the end of the “Indiana Jones” legacy and having someone succeed may shift the focus and eventually work against the franchise (in the event that a sixth instalment comes).

How Can 'Indiana Jones' live on?

With Spielberg’s claim that “Indiana Jones” will not be killed in the fifth offering, many are now left wondering what kind of tactic the director has up his sleeve.

His claim of “not killing Harrison [Ford] off” could be a jab at how Ford’s “Han Solo” character ended, meaning the legacy of the main character will remain intact.

Right now, the ideal scenario is to see Spielberg and Ford ending the “Indiana Jones” franchise though even that is uncertain.

“Indiana Jones 5” is set to open in theatres on July 19, 2019.
