Sony Says No PlayStation Vita Price Cut This Year

If you are waiting for Sony to cut the price of its portable Vita, you may have to wait till next year or later.

Sony says a price cut of the PlayStation Vita is not coming anytime soon and instead the company will focus on adding value with new bundle packages for consumers, according to a Eurogamer interview with Sony worldwide president Shuhei Yoshida.

"People like cheap or free," Yoshida said to Eurogamer. "Of course, cost reduction is one area our engineering team is working on. But we just launched the platform earlier this year. It takes time to do so.

Yoshida said he hopes to reduce the price in the future, but for now Sony will offer PS Vita software bundles to drive sales and add value for gamers looking for a reason to purchase the handheld.

"At a certain point in the future we would like to address the pricing issue for some of the people who are waiting,"Yoshida said. "But this year we are trying to add value by creating different types of bundles."

Sony has announced some very attractive bundles packs like the Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified, and LittleBigPlanet bundles. Sony had to recently cut the estimated number of Vitas it expected to sell before March 2013 and Yoshida acknowledge this in the interview.

"The reaction to the hardware platform itself has been very strong," said Yoshida, "But the actual sales of PS Vita, obviously we would like to see more uptake. We lots of feedback from consumers saying they would like to see more content, they would like to see their favorite franchises coming to the PS Vita."
