Apple will be adding to its Apple TV and will be coming up with a new device that will blend live and on-demand content. The technology giant is building a new set-top box that's designed to help simplify accessing and viewing TV content said a report from The Wall Street Journal.
In order to let consumers use Apple TV as the main set-top box, Apple has been in talks with the cable companies. The set-top box will let consumers view TV shows that are stored on the Internet. It also has a very cool feature which is similar to Time Warner Cable's Start Over, where the user can watch a program from the beginning even after the show has begun playing at its scheduled time.
Apple's device will have user interface similar to the ones in Apple's iPad though the designs might change little from the iPads'. Comparatively speaking, Apple's UI for set-top box will be easier to use than the currents ones. Apple wants the TV services to be accessed via iPad or iPhone to its users and users can share their favourite show via Twitter too.
It has been reported that Apple has been in talks with Time Warner Cable and other entertainment companies that have their own TV content. Apple has had trouble getting the rights that will enable users to use Apple's set-top box, as entertainment companies have to extend additional rights to Apple to enable viewing their content through the set-top box.
Apple wants to make it to people's living room with its Apple TV and set-top box. The California-based company has registered weak sales from its Apple TV compared to its popular brands like iPhones and iPads. Cable companies are wary of cutting a deal with Apple as they fear Apple will eventually dominate the industry.
