‘Minecraft’ Breaks Down the Barriers With New ‘Friendly Update’

“Minecraft” is undoubtedly one of the popular games that is known to date but the problem is that there are restrictions in play. This includes limiting players to play with others on the same platforms (i.e. mobile, Windows 10) though a recent announcement at E3 stands to change all that.

Mojang, a new company included in the Microsoft-LinkedIn deal that went down a couple of days ago, announced at E3 that a ‘friendly update’ will allow “Minecraft” players to enjoy the game regardless if they are on mobile or Windows 10 platforms.

Worth noting is that the planned “Minecraft” update is a small step towards uniting game versions played across the different gaming platforms. For now, the cross-platform support will cover “Minecraft Realms” initially.

Speaking of realms, one thing that gamers can also look forward to is that these can now be accessed by players even if the host is not online. With about 100 million “Minecraft” gamers around who pay a monthly fee of $8, this should be another good thing to look forward to.

While the cross-platform plan is a good step forward, it may eventually cover a wider niche meaning players from all platforms can play the game with the platform of their choice. Only time will tell when that could happen but the direction is obviously heading there.

Another thing worth looking for with the “Minecraft” friendly update are the add-ons. While certain software can help tweak worlds by tinkering with the themes, Mojang offers an initial add-on that can enable city-style building blocks or plastic blocks as mentioned via Tech Crunch.

At the E3, Mojang was able to show customizations like turning evil mobs in “Minecraft” to aliens. It even includes UFOs all the more spurring interest. That feature was scarce and Mojang may be holding out on more things to come.

The company is likely to offer new updates by September when it hosts its annual “Minecon” event which may shed more light on the add-ons plus more.
