Worlds Collide: Scott Pilgrim + Metal Slug, with a Touch of Contra = Mercenary Kings

A lot of people, maybe about a dozen or so, have asked what would happen if Konami's famed Contra ever crossed paths with the world of Scott Pilgrim. The answer to such an equation is Mercenary Kings.

If the art looks familiar, don't worry, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, it's only because it was done by Paul Robertson, who took the helm for Scott Pilgrim's game's sprites and effects.

A nice throwback to the 16-bit glory datys, fans with a diehard objective to see the game through are free to contribute at their kickstarter page.

"You play as King, the most skilled mercenary on Earth, and you are sent to an island located in the Central American Pacific Coast to smash a ruthless criminal organization that assassinated your former team members. Your mission might be to save the Earth, but your own motives are to uncover the truth behind their intricate conspiracy and to get revenge for your fallen comrades.

You'll need skills, a sharp eye and lightning-quick reflexes. However, you won't stand a chance if you charge blindly. You'll need to be methodical and well prepared. That's why your backup is the world's best experts, ready and at your disposal to help you gear up for any mission. The Gunsmith can craft firearms of choice and upgrade your body armor, the Knife Expert can build deadly custom knives, and the Shopkeeper provides you with all the supplies you'll need."

In addition to Robertson, Mercenary Kings will also feature other Pilgrim staff like Jonathan Lavigne, Jean-Francois Major, and others.

  • 30 to 40 missions taking place on a paradise island under siege.
  • 4-player local coop mode
  • 20 to 30 primary weapon sets (guns)
  • 5 to 10 secondary weapons (knives)

  • Basic shop items (rations, first-aid, grenades, and more)
  • Main NPCs (Colonel, Gunsmith, Knife Expert, Shopkeeper, Helicopter Pilot)

  • 4 mind-blowing bosses
  • 4 color palettes for the main character

At $125,000, gamers will get... 

  • 20 to 30 additional missions (total of 50-70)
  • Additional primary weapon sets (guns)
  • Additional secondary weapons (knives)
  • Additional materials to build parts
  • New shop items (such as a riot shield, mines, rocket launcher, and more)
  • Additional NPCs (a Fashion Designer and a Cook)
  • About 10 more enemies (total of 25)
  • 3 additional bosses (total of 7)
  • 4 additional color palettes for the main character (total of 8)
  • More Achievements

If they hit the $175,000 milestone...

  • The full plot is unveiled!
  • 20 to 30 additional missions (total of 70-100)
