'Scandal' Season 6 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Olivia Pope In For A Favorable Season? Reunion Happening?

“Scandal” season 6 is currently on hiatus and won’t be back until the midseason of 2017. Still and all, a lot of viewers are eager to know what lies ahead.

Perhaps the best person to shed some light on that would be “Scandal” show producer Shonda Rhimes. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Rhimes revealed some bits on what the next season will have to offer.

Right now, there are two characters in focus – outgoing president “Fitzgerald Grant” (Tony Godlwyn) and “Olivia Pope” (Kerry Washington). The two have a history and if the interpretation on Rhimes is true, “Fitz” will be pursuing “Olivia” in the next season.

“Fitzgerald” will be wrapping up his presidential run and right now there are hints that he will follow the footsteps of actual former US presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. This would have something to do with “Fitz” starting his own foundation which could technically lure back Olivia in the fold.

This revelation somehow douses water on some people’s take that Fitzgerald would be leaving the show. Rather, it becomes an interesting take tying up Olivia who went through a pretty frustrating season 5.

Curiously, it will be an odd reunion considering both have gone their separate ways. Olivia has gone on to enter a romance with Jake (Scott Foley) while Fitzgerald has a new love interest with a reporter.

As for the political angle, Fitzgerald is backing incumbent vice president Susan Ross (Artemis Pebdani) over his ex-wife, “Mellie Grant” (Bellamy Young). It becomes a bit complicated on the part of Olivia since she helped Jake become the running mate of Mellie.

With the twists cropping up, could there be a chance to rekindle the romance between Fitzgerald and Olivia? Apparently a lot of that will materialize once Fitzgerald is officially no longer the president. And as for his journey after that, here is what Rhimes had to say via the Reporter Times:

”When Fitz is out of office, I think he could do anything he wanted. I don’t want him to move to Vermont and make jam immediately. I’m not a big fan of that- but I think he could become an advocate, a judge, a private eye or join OPA or have his own post-Scandal show where he does anything. Spinoff!”
