Madden NFL '13 Release Date In Two Weeks: NFL's Top Wide Receivers And Tight Ends (Watch Announcement Here)

Madden NFL '13 release date is two weeks away and each week EA releases player ratings by position. This week EA Sports made available the ratings of wide receivers and tight ends in this year's edition.

The wide receiver ratings are little bit out of whack, as they do not take into account age, injury and last season's statistics. EA Sports places Hakeem Nicks a head of teammate and salsa dancing sensation Victor Cruz. I do not disagree with this because I think Nicks is the better all-around receiver. But I am sure Cruz's fan base will be a little disappointed. Cruz finished the season with a single season franchise record of 1,536 receiving yards on 82 receptions and 9 touchdowns, which was goof for third best in the league. Cruz was named a Second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press.

I think the most surprising player on the list is Steve Smith. He had a great year last season but is often injured and is getting up there in years. I highly doubt he replicates last season from a statistical standpoint. On the subject of surprises, Wes Welker is one of the greatest possession receivers in the game, but I would have ranked him below Nicks and White. This rating has a lot to do with who throws the ball to Welker.

This year's cover athlete, Calvin Johnson gets the generous cover athlete rating of a 99, but for once the cover athlete deserves the rating. Johnson was a beast last season and rightful deserves to be rated the best wide receiver in the game. If you missed the top ten running backs click here.
