Fans of Kevin Smith's 1995 hit "Mallrats" have been waiting for sequel updates for over a year. Well, the time has finally come. "Mallrats 2" is coming soon. But it "Mallbrats" will not be released in theaters. Instead, the "Mallrats" sequel will be made into a 10-episode TV series!
Kevin Smith broke the good news during an radio interview with WMMR 93.3's Preston and Steve Morning Show (via ComicBook). The "Clerks" director confirmed that he had already spoken to Universal about developing "Mallbrats" as a TV show.
Although Kevin Smith has not yet found a TV network for the show, the filmmaker shared that he is close to reaching an agreement with the studio. In addition to that, the "Mallrats" sequel will still be filmed in Pennsylvania's Exton Square Mall (via Youtube).
But the big question is, who will return in "Mallbrats"? Last year, Kevin Smith confirmed that most of the stars of "Mallrats" will be back in the sequel. Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Jeremy London and Michael Rooker will reprise their roles as Brodie, Renee, T.S. and Jared Svenning.
Is there any chance Ben Affleck will appear in "Mallbrats"? Although it would be fun to see Batffleck make an appearance in the "Mallrats" sequel, it is highly unlikely.
After all, Shannon Hamilton was sent to prison for having sex in a very uncomfortable place with the underaged Tricia Jones.
A "Mallrats" sequel would never be complete without the return of Jay and Silent Bob. Luckily, Kevin Smith's best friend and long-time collaborator Jason Mewes is confirmed for "Mallbrats." Easter bunnies everywhere, you have been warned.
There is no definite date on when the "Mallbrats" TV series will begin development. Nevertheless, Kevin Smith assures fans that the "Mallrats" sequel will happen. "It's just taking us a longer time to build," he told listeners of the Preston and Steve Morning Show.
