'Edge of Nowhere' Review, News & Update: Will Game Live Up to The Hype?

"Edge of Nowhere" is an intense mature psychological horror thriller set in the mountains of Antarctica from Insomniac games. Insomniac is a talented studio that brought us game franchises like "Spyro The Dragon," "Ratchet & Clank," and "Resistance."

'Edge of Nowhere' storyline

According to Kotaku, "Edge of Nowhere" take on the role of Victor Howard in a search for his fiancee, who is part of the lost expedition in Antarctica.

Quickly the "Edge of Nowhere" journey takes a turn for the worse as the rescue plane crashes and lands in the mountains and Victor is forced to descend into the depths of not only the environment itself but the depth of his own mind as well.

Hallucinations and flashbacks take over at the line between reality and illusion in Victor's mind. The use of flashback in the "Edge of Nowhere" replaces many of the traditional staples of game storytelling by cutscenes.

The "Edge of Nowhere" developers convey the messages needed but still the player maintains a sense of control and presence.

Although it does take several hours before you're able to piece together many of the characters' backgrounds and motivations, the slow-paced unveiling of the "Edge of Nowhere" story is an effective narrative tool for players with patience.

'Edge of Nowhere' gameplay

The Verge cited that the tones and themes utilize in "Edge of Nowhere" setting are reminiscent of Lovecraft's work as a creator of horror. Gamespot noted that "Edge of Nowhere is a model example of how to integrate traditional gameplay into VR."

"Edge of Nowhere" has several hair-raising moments of terror. It is well-written, mind-twisting psychological story and an immersive sense of presence for a horror game.

The heart-racing journey in the "Edge of Nowhere" is full of stop and stare of sheer intensity. However, there are some minor issues as well, such as character development and the use of VR can feel a little awkward at times.

"Edge of Nowhere" is an uncomfortably personal and unnerving horror experience unlike anything that you've experienced inside of a VR headset.
