Jet Set Radio was originally released on Dreamcast in 2000 and was known as Jet Grind Radio in North America. The game is known for its innovative use of cel-shaded graphics in video games and was one of the earliest Graffiti tagging game. Cel-shading allows for a "cartoon-like" appearance of objects that are rendered in 3D.

The game follows the story of a young Rudie-a term used in the game to define street youths, as he battles against authority in a future Tokyo where freedom of expression is outlawed. A sequel, Jet Set Radio Future was released 2 years later for the Xbox. The game series is definitely inspired aggressive inline skating. Players can grind through rails and skate backwards.

SEGA made the announcement about the Jet Set Radio HD remake for consoles back in February, and later made the announcement regarding the Vita edition right before this year's E3.
