Nintendo NX News & Update: March 2017 Release Date Delayed To Add VR Capabilities?

The Nintendo NX rumor mill just does not shut down. The Nintendo NX was supposed to go into mass production mid this year, but then it was announced that the mysterious console will be launched in March 2017 instead. Now, recent reports revealed that Nintendo NX will face another delay to add Virtual Reality (VR) capabilities.

Nintendo NX mass production delayed to add Virtual Reality

According to Digitimes, the mass production of Nintendo NX have been pushed into early 2017 to "enhance the game console's video-game/handheld-game-integrated gaming experience and add virtual reality (VR) function into the system to gain advantages in the upcoming video game and mobile game competitions."

This means that Nintendo could potentially be throwing its hat into the VR race, but does it make sense? Virtual Reality in terms of a home gaming experience is still very much in its infancy.

It is still not certain if this is going to become a staple of the gaming industry or if it's just going to be a fad that quickly dies out.

Besides the delay in the release date, ValueWalk reported that the Nintendo NX units could be scaled down from 20 million to 10 million because of the VR plan.

Nintendo previously said that they're going to start manufacturing the system in mid 2016 but then they stopped it to add a feature right when Nintendo NX is supposed to go into full steam with manufacturing.

With Nintendo delaying Nintendo NX at the last minute, it's quite concerning because it seems like Nintendo lacked faith in their product so they added a VR just because other competitors were doing it already.

But then at the same time if VR does take off and it will actually be successful then Nintendo made the right decision by adding the VR since Sony and Microsoft are going to be all about VR in E3 2016.
