Star Wars 1313, a new darker Star Wars game was revealed at this year's E3. The game is a collaborative effort that spans across many divisions of the Lucasfilm organization.
Visual effects supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) Kim Libreri believes that in 10 years game graphics will have advanced to the point of being "indistinguishable from reality, according to a new video interview with CVG.
ILM and Libreri are currently working with LucasArts on Star Wars 1313, Libreri said in the video that one day it will be impossible to spot the differences between real-time rendering and live action.
"It's an interesting time because with modern computer graphics hardware," Libereri said. "The way it's going, it's going to be pretty hard to tell the difference between something that is interactive and rendered in real time, and something that was done for an animated TV show, or even a live-action thing."
Libreri has created visual effects for blockbuster movies like Super 8, the Matrix and SpaceJam, which blends animation and live action. So far early footage of Star Wars 1313, showcases fluid animation and cinematic quality visuals, while not approaching anything near photorealistic quality.
Star Wars 1313 is a third-person action-adventure video game that puts the player in the role of a spacefaring bounty hunter traversing the planet Coruscant's subterranean underworld while trying to uncover a criminal conspiracy. No release date or platforms for Star Wars 1313 have been announced.
