Apple is expected to release an updated version of its famed MacBook Pro; one that includes a thinner design and a rumoured new OLED touch bar which will be situated above the keyboard. All these are unofficial for now with the Cupertino company expectedly holding back.
Though rumors are still the best people can refer to for now, most come from a familiar figure in KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. When it comes to Apple-related rumors, Kuo has been consistent and reliable so these new round of rumors have revved up expectations all the more.
The alleged OLED touch bar will replace the traditional physical buttons that the MacBook Pro previously sported; the same ones that helped owners adjust display brightness and/or the speaker volume.
Adding more fuel to the fire are the spy photo shots sent to Cult of Mac alleged to be sent by someone who works for one of Apple’s manufacturing partners in China in connection with the MacBook Pro. The sent image shows a thin strip reportedly for the touch bar which will take the place of the old function keys.
If true, the OLED touch bar for the MacBook Pro will eventually assume the previous functions from the F-keys. Aside from that, the iteration of the function keys will also give users more space when using their MacBook Pro.
Touch ID and fingerprint security is also rumoured to be included though there is no clarity yet on whether one or both of them would be tied up to the OLED touch display functionality.
Other expected features that the next MacBook Pro will carry include four USB-C ports and a headphone jack. Possibly gone are the SD card slot and the MagSafe connector. The MacBook Pro’s speakers may also be relocated, believed to end up at either side of the keyboard.
With regards to screen size variants, Apple is expected to retain its 13-inch and 15-inch choices.
