Recent statistics reveal that only one out of five smart phone users are using ad blockers. Only 22 percent of the smart phone user population are using ad blockers on their mobile phones.
The use of ad blockers on desktop computers has been overtaken by smart phone users. PageFair mentioned that 419 million people are using ad blockers on their cell phone.
The statistics given by PageFair, which is a website focused on tracking ad-blocking trends, reveal that there are twice as many mobile phone users who use ad blockers on their phone than desktop users.
Vocativ mentioned that Priori Data and PageFair collaborated to come up with more details regarding the usage of ad blockers. Both companies discovered that 408 million use ad blockers on their mobile phones.
Their findings were based on the data they retrieved in March. They came to conclusion that there was a 90 percent global increase for browser usage on 2015.
One of the reasons as to why people would use ad blockers on their mobile phones is for them to spend less on mobile data usage. Though ad blockers are widely popular, the price for the ad blocking software continually skyrockets.
Global industry leaders were asked by PageFair regarding their reaction on the rise of ad blocking. Though it may be beneficial to consumers, it is an inclining problem for advertisers.
"Now is the time for advertising professionals and marketers to take a hard look at ourselves to understand why consumers are not responding to these types of ads, and figure out how we can correct the issue to better engage with the consumers we're trying to reach," Nancy Hill, CEO, 4A's told PageFair.
Ad blocking browsers, which are mobile browsers that automatically blocks advertisements, are mostly popular in Asian countries. Though majority prefer to use mobile ad blockers, it was mentioned that ad blockers are becoming a threat to all mobile channels.
